Visa On Arrival, e-Customs, and Tourism Levy in Bali

Visa On Arrival (VOA)

Most international visitors are required to obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) for a fee of IDR 500,000. This visa grants a stay of up to 30 days with an option for a single extension to 60 days at the local immigration office for an additional fee of IDR 500,000. Here’s the conversion of the VOA fee:

  • USD: ~$30
  • AUD: ~$46
  • EUR: ~€30
  • GBP: ~£24

The VOA can be purchased either online or at the airport, with payments accepted via cash (local or foreign currency) or credit card. If applying online, it's recommended to do so at least 1-2 weeks before your trip to account for processing times and potential holiday backlogs. You can start by heading to this website: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/web/services.

The extension process can't be done online and involves multiple visits to the local immigration office. First, you need to visit the immigration office to submit your passport and application at least 7-14 days before your VOA expires. Once the extension is approved, your second visit will involve having your biometrics scanned. Finally, on your third visit, you will collect your passport. Alternatively, you can opt to use a local visa agent to assist with the process. This option requires only one visit to the immigration office for biometric scanning, but it may involve a higher fee for the added convenience.

For those planning to extend their VOA, it's possible to book a return flight outside of your initial 30 days VOA stay, as you'll be extending your stay later. This can save you from needing to change your flight later, since most extensions are granted without significant issues.

Note that certain ASEAN countries are exempt from this fee, so be sure to verify your eligibility on the official immigration department website: https://kemlu.go.id/portal/id.

e-Customs Declaration Form

After retrieving your luggage at the airport, you’ll need to complete an e-customs declaration form before exiting the arrival terminal. This electronic form can be filled out three days prior to your flight or while waiting for your luggage using the airport’s public WiFi.

Form: https://ecd.beacukai.go.id or scan the QR code below.

Given the potential unreliability of airport WiFi, it’s wise to complete the form before your flight to Bali. Simply screenshot the QR code upon completion and scan it upon departure for a smoother process.

New Tourism Levy

Starting February 14, 2024, Bali will implement a tourism levy of IDR 150,000 for foreign tourists. This levy supports local development and is an important part of Bali’s efforts to enhance its tourism infrastructure. Here’s what the levy amounts to in various currencies:

  • USD: ~$9
  • AUD: ~$14
  • EUR: ~€9
  • GBP: ~£7

While the levy may not be strictly checked upon entry, it could be requested at popular landmarks. To avoid any inconvenience, it’s advisable to pay this levy before your arrival and save the QR code proof of payment on your phone. The payment can be made via the official Bali tourism website: https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id.
